Just 10 minutes from downtown New Orleans are Metairie and Gretna (Gretna is on the West Bank via the Crescent City Connection). Both are popular destinations for traveling families or anyone on a budget. All the national hotel chains you love and trust are right here. If you drove here, you won’t have pay overnight parking in Metairie or Gretna.

Business travelers like Metairie because it’s closer to the airport. On Veterans Memorial Boulevard – Metairie’s main drag – you’ll find literally hundreds of restaurants and shopping areas, including Lakeside, the area's biggest mall. With more than 120 shops including Macy’s, Dillard’s, Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma, this is where New Orleans shops. If you can’t find it on Vets, you can’t find it anywhere.

And Gretna is home to one of Louisiana’s largest National Historic Districts. The Gretna Historical Society Museum Complex includes the Kittie Strehle Home, the Louisiana State Fire Museum and the Gretna Green Blacksmith Shop.

Both Metairie and Gretna are popular places to stay during Mardi Gras, especially if you’re looking for family-friendly parades (you won’t have to cover your kid’s eyes here).

Metairie Hotel Costs

Hotels in Metairie offer everything you expect, at a price you'd like to pay. Hotels here are generally more affordable, offer more space and free off street parking, all the while being just a car ride from all of the sights and sounds of New Orleans.

Metairie is located a short drive between the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and New Orleans. It's about a fifteen minute drive from the airport to hotels or about ten to fifteen minutes to French Quarter from these hotels. A number offer free shuttles to the airport or points in the city. There's also taxis that can take you around New Orleans, Metairie and the airport.

For business travelers, there's corporate executive style guest rooms, business centers and meeting rooms. For the family, there's pools and restaurants.

Staying in Metairie is perfect if you want to be close to New Orleans, but not too close. You'll get better rates generally and often a better night's rest.

Attractions in Nearby Areas

Metairie is generally quieter and less crowded than the city, but there are plenty of great restaurants to enjoy! Some of our favorites are Deanie’s, which serves succulent seafood in a class by itself; Acme Oyster House, Zea’s Rotisserie & Grill, featuring award-winning American cuisine; and Cello’s Deli, where soup, salad and sandwiches are a specialty.

Lafreniere Park is a lush, green park—perfect for all your outdoor fun! The park is complete with a Frisbee golf course, carousel, soccer and softball fields and a conference center.
